Independence Day, or the 4th of July, is the annual celebration of nationhood in the United States that commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

A couple of weeks ago, we celebrated Juneteenth, Jubilee Day, the commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans marketing the anniversary of the announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865 proclaiming freedom of enslaved people in Texas. We recognize this day as Black Independence Day.
