Email Intro with Steven Geller

“My father was with the Big Red 1, 18th Infantry and was there at the liberation of Nordhausen. You have one picture with him in it on your site, and a second picture that I’m certain is him as well.

He said there was a LIFE magazine photographer there, and he followed him around and took pics that the photog took.  In the 80’s he brought an old LIFE magazine that had pics from that photographer – and these you can see these pics attached were taken at just a slightly different angle as he stood next to him.

Here are pictures he took that day, if you want to use them on the site, please feel free.

His name was Milton Geller, pretty amazing guy.

The photo below with the red circle, I’m pretty sure my father is one of those with the camera or standing next to the one with the camera.

This is exactly how he described the scene.  And if you look at his photos, and the people on the ground right there, I think he’s likely one of those.

The group shot below with army and – it looks like some air corps, my father is right smack in the middle.  Grey circle.

I’m also attaching a picture of him – with the description about his (large) head, and that they were in England during practices for the Normandy Invasion.  He was with the 2nd wave, incredible stories.

I have his medals, the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart, and I also have his army jacket looking like he just took it off from his Honorable Discharge photo.

I’m attaching the photo of the plaque we made of the medals and Citation for the Silver Star – and Photo of him receiving it.

I also have his army issue Hebrew prayer book – but those I think I’d like to hold onto.
