The controversial and inimitable Pandita Ramabai made incredible strides for the education and life quality of women in India. While during her lifetime she may have been outcast for how vocal she was about the true nature of the caste system and the way it marginalized women, the progress she made is still being felt today. After becoming a widow with a young daughter at the age of 23, she spent her time advocating for the rights of women, and arguing against the practice of child marriages.
