Florence Price: First African American Female Composer to have Work Played by a Major Symphony Orchestra

Florence Price's work was almost lost forever, until a couple in 2009 discovered 200 compositions in the home they purchased to renovate. Her work was a melding between the traditional romantic European composers in the classical music canon and her African American roots. She operated with two "handicaps"... she was a woman, and she was black.
