Effa Manley co-owned the baseball team, The Newark Eagles of the Negro League, with her husband, Abe. She was quickly recognized as an excellent business woman and dedicated her life to baseball and the Civil Rights movement, hosting various benefits at the stadium to raise money and awareness to local causes. Effa lobbied for the inclusion of Negro League players in the Baseball Hall of Fame, and ended up being inducted herself!
