Bertha von Suttner was a dedicated leader of the Peace Movement from the 1890s to her death. Her novel, Lay Down Your Arms, is still widely accepted as one of the most important literary works in, or out, of the peace movement. She and her husband fought to prevent the eruption of World War 1, providing other options and commentaries on how to lead a world of progress through peace, rather than war. She was a dear friend of Alfred Nobel, and is often credited with providing him the inspiration for the creation of the Nobel Peace Prize.
