Althea Gibson was the first Black woman to win the United States National Championship (now the US Open), among numerous other championships. She dedicated her life to being the best athlete she could be. She retired briefly and pursued singing, acting, writing, and golf (among other things of course). Althea was the definition of a dedicated woman who always strived to better herself.
