Valeria has a Master of International Affairs with a concentration in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and two Bachelor degrees in Diplomacy and International Relations and Modern Languages from Seton Hall University. She also holds certificates in Humanitarian Response to Conflict and Disaster from Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and Human Rights and the Rights of Refugees from Amnesty International. 

Valeria is co-founder of Global Emergency Response and Assistance - GERA., an NGO established in 2015 that provides humanitarian assistance and community development to refugees.

Valeria has worked for the Organization of American States in her home country of Nicaragua. She had previously interned with the European Union, also in Nicaragua. These positions gave Valeria the opportunity to promote humanitarian goals and access to justice among different groups, including indigenous people, disabled people who have experienced discrimination, and victims of domestic violence.
