LinkedIn is one of the best, but most underutilized social media platforms for business out there. Many coaches recommend building your platform where your audience hangs out, which is great advice, but if you’re not also creating new connections on LinkedIn, you’re seriously missing out on a huge part of your network. Louise Brogan, the host of The Social Bee Podcast and LinkedIn strategist, is here to talk about building and using LinkedIn to fuel your business forward.

Like many women in business, Louise had a corporate life that stopped advancing when she started to balance her job with motherhood. After a craft business that wasn’t making money, Louise played to her strengths and, knowing she was great at social media, decided to become a trainer. She became certified in Facebook and LinkedIn for business growth, but her love of LinkedIn grew to where she is now: solely providing LinkedIn services, consulting, and training for entrepreneurs and corporate businesses.

Louise explains why LinkedIn is the best platform for finding clients. Because people are already using the site with business in mind, they’re more likely to become hard leads. But only a handful of people are actively posting on LinkedIn, making it one of, if not the most, underutilized platforms out there.

But using LinkedIn for business isn’t about posting similarly to how you’d post on Facebook. Louise shares how you can avoid this and other mistakes that many entrepreneurs are making on the platform. She also talks about what small tweaks you can easily make so your profile is more attractive to potential connections by making it clear and obvious what services you provide.

So how exactly do you start getting active on LinkedIn? Louise explains the benefits of commenting on and sharing other’s posts, writing your own posts, and why you should create articles at least once a month. At the very least, you should be posting on LinkedIn at least twice a week!

Finally, Louise tells us why she’s choosy about who she connects with on LinkedIn. If the connection request isn’t personalized, she doesn’t know them at all or doesn’t feel like there would be any business benefit from making the connection, Louise declines the request. She shares how you can make genuine connections on LinkedIn.

Are you using this awesome business platform to grow your network? Do you regularly write articles on LinkedIn? How can you start to make more valuable business connections using LinkedIn?

Quotes:

“When you go to LinkedIn, you’re generally there with your business-head on, whether you’re an entrepreneur or a bigger business owner. So you’re thinking business already when you’re there.”(8:56)

“When you get connection requests, if you click on the person who’s sending the connection request, have a look and see are they actually active on LinkedIn, are they somebody you think you might work with or who you actually agree with the kind of stuff they’re posting on there? Is it a potential collaboration? Rather than just accepting all the connection requests you get.” (22:12)

“Build up a genuine network of people that you’re interested in having conversations with and business absolutely comes as a result of that.” (25:57)
