2020 VP Debate; Forced ICE Hysterectomies

In this week’s episode of Women Fight Back! hosts Rachel Hu and Hannah Dickinson analyze the VP debates with Party for Socialism and Liberation member Naomi Li and Women Fight Back! team member Nathalie Feliz, asking: With Kamala Harris presented as a new champion for “lean-in” feminism, who does this feminism actually support? The panel discusses how the VP debate demonstrates ways in which mainstream media and politicians shut working and poor people out of the conversation. In the second half, Rachel, Hannah, Naomi and Nathalie dive into the history of sterilization in the United States and discuss how this history continues to affect BIPOC women and working women across the country. They then bring the conversation to the present, and discuss the reports and investigations kicked off by whistleblower Dawn Wooten’s account of forced hysterectomies in an ICE detention center in Georgia.
