Here is how to beat THE TYRANNY OF THE TEST. All thyroid testing should be 'taken with a grain of salt.' This means that the tests are not that accurate, and should not be used alone to rule in or rule out a diagnosis or to dictate therapy decisions. This is especially true of the new Reverse T3 test, as well as the T3/rT3 ratio. Best is to insist on a PANEL of thyroid tests, consisting of TSH, Free T4, Free T3, and TPO Antibody. Forget about Reverse T3 unless you have a special situation.
