Another holiday gift idea. Mackenzie Christie’s does a heavy snatch and clean and jerk as a pageant talent. Kristof Horvath in biking accident.

Thursday, November 14th, 2019

Good morning and welcome to the WODDITY podcast for news about CrossFit. We are a daily podcast, Monday through Friday, doing CrossFit news in five minutes or less.

My name is Ben Garves and today is Thursday, the 14th of November, 2019. It is the first Thursday in five weeks without a clue from Dave Castro, a scramble to find a live stream for the CrossFit Open announcement, or the stress of trying to sleep knowing you have a Friday Night Lights workout tomorrow.

Mackenzie Christie’s Olympic Weightlifting Pageant Talent

If you haven’t heard of Mackenzie Christie yet, I’m sure you’re going to be hearing more and more about her. She was mentioned on the Talking Elite Fitness podcast last week and featured in an article on Morning Chalk Up this morning. Who is this mysterious Mackenzie Christie? She’s the super awesome competitor who showed up to the Miss Hanover Pageant’s talent portion rocking a barbell and Olympic lifting singlet. To put this in context, seven contestants performed dance routines and six contestants sang. While all of them did an incredible job, only Christie performed a snatch, followed by a heavy clean-and-jerk. Kudos for the bravery, kudos for the creativity, and kudos for being assertive enough to fearlessly do what you love, regardless of whether it’s deemed contemporary.

Kristof Horvath in Biking Accident

It’s getting dangerous out there for CrossFit athletes on bikes. Following James Newbury’s crash only a few short weeks ago, Kristof Horvath was hit by a car while riding his bike to the gym. Horvath was a member of last year’s CrossFit Mayhem Europe team, is the older brother of 2018 CrossFit Games Rookie of the Year Laura Horvath, and as of 5 PM yesterday, the fittest man in Hungary.

Horvath suffered a dislocated right collar bone and is undergoing tests today to check for ligament damage. While his immediate competitive plans are subject to change, he was originally slated to compete at the CrossFit Filthy150 next weekend and to compete on a team at the Dubai CrossFit Championship starting December 11th.

And...stay away from those two-wheeled monstrosities if you have access to an Echo Bike, Assault Bike, or Bike Erg. At least until things quiet down.

CrossFit Italian Showdown Registration Open

Yesterday was the launch of registration for the CrossFit Italian Showdown. The event is the first Sanctional to open its doors to the first 1,500 athletes, regardless of age, gender, or skill. They are still taking athletes on a “first come, first served” basis, but you’ll want to get over to register quickly. According to Morning Chalk Up, they were 85% full in the first nine hours of sign-ups. I have a link to the event in my show notes. At the time of writing this, spots were still open.

45 Fitness Gifts: Holiday Gift Guide

On the fifth day of my 2019 Holiday Gift Guide for healthy humans, I’m featuring TriggerPoint’s MobiPoint® Massage Ball. I know we’ve all been using lacrosse balls, but this one is a little different. It’s smaller and textured. I think it’s perfect for rolling out your hands and feet. I had no idea how much typing was wearing on my hands until I started using this thing a few years ago. You can read more about it by using the link in my show notes at WODDITY, or use the other link to just go buy one. TriggerPoint has some really great self-massage tools like foam rollers. I actually have two of them. Shop Massage Balls at TriggerPoint.

AMRAP Roundup

The AMRAP Roundup is back today with three quick stories. As always, these are just the headlines. If you want to read more in-depth about them, you can find links to more in my show notes at WODDITY.com.

Three headlines for time: go!

Fresh off unofficially winning the 2020 CrossFit Open, Sara Sigmundsdottir has confirmed for Filthy150 next weekend. Sigmundsdottir did something similar for the 2019 season, competing in multiple Sanctionals before qualifying in the Open.

Dean Linder-Leighton is training a little differently this year, setting his sights back on the CrossFit Games, in addition to two of the biggest triathlons in the world: the Kona and the Iron Series ironmans. If his crazy plan succeeds, this guy could be the hybrid solution to our small Hunter McIntyre problem.

A Fresh Cup of Fitness is back. Our friendly neighborhood podcast pals Jessica Danger and Brittany Marsh at Morning Chalk Up are pouring (pun...get it?) pouring their Fresh Cup of Fitness...tough crowd. They’re sipping on some ideas for staying on track while traveling.

And that’s it for news about CrossFit on Thursday, November 14th.

We have a few more Sanctional sponsorship opportunities available to organizations looking to sponsor our live reporting during the 2020 CrossFit Sanctional season. These companies get access to our amazing daily podcast audience, spaces on our event live streams, analysis videos, and more. Reach out to me at [email protected] for more details.
