Today I’m speaking With Ashley Jordan, she’s the director of operations & strategy at re:work training in Chicago.
Ashley pivoted into a non-profit, high impact workplace last November with the organization known as re:work training , & they’re on a mission to
“make our workplaces look more like our neighborhoods.”
re:work offers a free, 8-week training & job placement program focused on tech sales. Their candidates are predominantly black & LatinX and have non-traditional backgrounds, meaning they don’t usually have the 4 yr. degree with 3-5 years of previous experience that even entry-level roles at many tech companies require.
--on the corporate side, they work w/companies to reshape biased hiring trends and to consider their candidates.
Ashley’s motivation @ rework comes from working in a digital marketing & social media role in a corporate job where she was unhappy w/ the state of “the office,” & discovered how little time, talent, and treasure most companies invested in that’s diversity-equity-& inclusion), also known as “DEI.” She spent her free time volunteering at non-profits through fundraising and marketing, but truly wanted to do it full-time as a mission she could connect w/personally – so that she could create opportunity, access, and exposure for untapped communities. Their focus right now at re:work is targeting Chicago’s south and west sides. ----welcome Ashley Jordan. I’m so thrilled to finally have you here and talk about this unrelenting topic of DEI in tech.
