This week's guest is Lisa Alexander who coached the Australian Women’s Netball Team (the Diamonds) from 2011 until her contract was controversially terminated in March 2020. Before coaching Lisa played for Victoria and was a member of the wider Australian senior squad. She is the first ever Diamonds coach to have not represented them herself. Under Lisa’s coaching, the Diamonds have been the number one ranked team in the world since 2011 and she has led the team to win gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2015 Netball World Cup as well as Silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2019 World Cup. Throughout her coaching career Lisa has maintained an incredible 81% winning record. In addition, Lisa was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 for her service to netball as a player and for coaching and player development. In 2014 she was also awarded the Coach of the Year at the AIS Sport Performance Awards. We hear how her unexpected pregnancy influenced her coaching career, her love of all sports (and Shane Gould) and the deep competitiveness which drove the Diamonds to be the best in the world.
