England’s Reanne Evans has been World Ladies Snooker Champion a record ten times. After winning 61 consecutive women's matches and defeating world champion John Higgins at the 2009 Six-red World Championship, she became the first woman to play on the men’s snooker tour since1995.  This year Reanne was again awarded a place in the qualifying rounds of the World Snooker Championship and after a closely fought battle she lost her opening match 8–10 to former World Champion Ken Doherty. She was then defeated by Hong Kong's Ng On Yee in the Ladies World Championship's semi-final. Reanne continues to be a role model showing that she can break the glass ceiling despite the challenges to women of making a living in the sport at any level.
