For the first time in the 177 year history of the Chicago Tribune, its journalists are on strike to protest job and wage cuts made by the paper’s owner, hedge fund Alden Global Capital. The 24-hour walkout includes Tribune editors, reporters, photographers, and designers. They were picketing in front of the Freedom Center where the paper’s offices are located. They are asking people not to read the Tribune during their strike.
