Souper Bowl of Caring pushed to Feb. 13; order by Feb. 9.

Pickups for our takeout Souper Bowl of Caring have been postponed one week, to Sunday, Feb. 13. The new deadline for soup orders is Wednesday, Feb. 9. The change was necessitated by building closures on Feb. 3 and 4. Souper Bowl of Caring is our annual event benefiting the Phil Strickland Hunger Offering. Instead of our usual sit-down meal, this year’s event will be offered to go. Proceeds will go to Delta Hands for Hope to assist in their food distribution efforts in four rural communities. Delta Hands for Hope, based in Shaw, Mississippi, is supported by Together for Hope, a rural development coalition run by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

Instructions

■ Order soup online by Wednesday, Feb. 9. Find link at wilshirebc.org/registration.

■ Pick up orders in James Gallery from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13. Walk-up orders will be taken, but choices will be limited. Advance ordering is strongly recommended.

■ Each 1-qt. container serves 3 to 4 people. Choose from Beef & Vegetable, Chicken Tortilla, Tomato-Basil and Vegetable Minestrone.

■ Your donation of $20 for one soup, $35 for two, $50 for three or $65 for four will provide much needed support to Delta Hands for Hope.

■ To forgo the soup and simply make a donation, visit the ordering link or note “Souper Bowl” with your online gift or on your check.

Jason Coker to speak Feb. 6

In conjunction with Souper Bowl of Caring, Jason Coker, president of Together for Hope and a former Wilshire missions minister, will speak at 10 a.m. in McIver Chapel about the organization’s work fighting rural poverty. Together for Hope services 301 American counties of persistent rural poverty. They work through and support nearly 50 partner organizations, including Delta Hands for Hope, our 2022 Souper Bowl of Caring beneficiary. Together for Hope holistically fights poverty by focusing on four priorities: education, health and nutrition, housing and environment and social enterprise.
