I Am Wilshire – Terri Morgan.

Hometown: Dallas

Education: B.S., University of Texas at Austin; M.S., Vanderbilt University; Master of Theology, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University

Profession: Baptist minister

Present city: San Luis Potosi, Mexico

Tell us about your family. I have two grown sons and four grandchildren. Robert and Sarah live in Washington, D.C., and are both foreign service officers. They have a boy and a girl. Thomas and Carly live in Tennessee and have two little boys. Thomas is an E.R. physician and Carly is a nurse. John and Grant died in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Not a day passes that I do not miss my beautiful young sons, but I know that I will see them again.

How about your work? I retired several years ago as the president of an international non-governmental organization involved in sustainable development. Since then I have remained active and interested in issues around the environment, sustainable development and poverty. The nexus of these issues is also closely related to justice and the rights of indigenous peoples.

What are your favorite pastimes? Reading and studying are my favorites — and cooking (only out of necessity!). During this past year Netflix has also become a hobby.

What are your favorite books? I love biography, history, theology and the study of religion and culture.

Where is your favorite place to travel? I am looking forward to traveling more in my new country of Mexico. There’s so much to explore in this diverse and beautiful country. The rich history of the ancient indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica and their impact on the development of the Mexican culture and economy can be seen everywhere and is deeply woven into the fabric of everyday life.

Where are you engaged in Wilshire? I joined Wilshire in 2007, but in 2020 I began to attend the BEST Class on Zoom. This class has been an incredible blessing and I am thankful to be reunited with Wilshire again — even if it is from afar! I now teach in the BEST Class and recently joined the Missions Committee and the Christian Advocacy Committee.

What has surprised you about Wilshire? The capacity to adapt to new and challenging circumstances. I think this reveals the strength of the ministries, ministry staff, the support staff and their dedication in serving the Lord.
