May 17, 2016 16:42

I've been enjoying ecstatic dance for the last year and half after being dance-phobic my entire life. Its ironic but pretty common for musicians to have this condition I have found.   Dance has literally opened up a new expressive outlet for me not to mention a loving community of new friends.  Prior to dance, most of my community needs we're met by my profession as a musician. Instead of accepting drugs intervention for some mental health issues, maybe we could see the "mental health issu...

The AMP study reports that more than 1,200 local music industry jobs were lost in just a four year period. “We’ve sounded this alarm before, and we keep coming back with more data that says Austin music needs attention if we are to continue to ...

On Simon and Garfunkel, from an old guy that was there...

January 05, 2016 16:36

On Simon and Garfunkel, from an old guy that was there: Something sad there is contained in the harmonies of Simon and Garfunkel. Their sound is folkish, but they weren’t exactly folksingers because they performing new material written by Paul Simon . The sadness of their harmonies and lyrics spoke to a sorrow that is in all of us, and it spoke to the times also.  President Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963.  “I am a rock, I am an island” speaks of the alienation of youth at the ...

John Pointer's Biography

November 30, 2015 03:20

But f...
