Note:

This is not a real person. This is not real information for someone. This is a role play of a scenario that I would see as a banker at Bank of America.

Walks in 1 kid - Kalie (3-4yo)

Job: Waitress at iHop - No Direct Deposit available/paper check every week/worked there 2 years

Lots of cash tips - barely making ends meet/Minimum Wage for Waitress - $2.13/hr for tipped employees

Screwed up credit in college with a credit card we sold her over 10 years ago.

Wants to buy a house

Wants to save for Kalie's college tuition early on.

See how I use my bank skills, use the account opening my system, and a little empathy to get 4 accounts out of this lady. Learn how even though I was told that she doesn't have direct deposit, I give her the form anyway with "advice" on how to get money faster during tax time, which will benefit my bonus as well. Learn how we make a deposit into one account, yet move money all over to the other accounts to activate them for sales credit for me, and tell her to move it back, knowing it may never have money again.

Learn how I hatch a plan to use her 3-4 yo girl to be added to all her accounts to avoid the monthly fee, and to earmark 2 of those as "Kalie's college fund" which will give her no value at all.

Host Note: I was emotional and physically ill after recording this podcast. This took me to a place of sales pushing and "finding value" in even the most problematic of customers, and recommending 4 products when recommending a bank better suited for her needs is better. I will be doing more of these over time, different scenarios in order to help you realize everything about your interaction at a big bank is an upsell for more products. Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions about this process for any bank, I will identify the sales pitch for you!
