Believe it or not, MGM wasn't sure how to sell Stanley Kubrick's sci-fi masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey." One of the ideas suggested by PR executive Mike Kaplan was 'how about a pop single?' Encouraged by Kubrick, Kaplan took up his pen and wrote and produced a song. Kubrick ended up shelving the idea, and the record wasn't heard... until now.
