Week 15 - A Delightful Day!

As a young child I was confused about a lot of things regarding religion. it made no sense to me that there was only one way to get to what we called God. This weekend and about every 30 years there is a rare crossover of Easter, Passover and Ramadan.

Guess What! Warning...THIS post is NOT GOING to BE about any of that.

I am going to share how following my guidance to reach out to my friend Kym was the beginning of a delightful day. It started with this 8:50 a.m. text.

Me: Are you going to Hillside today? We are trying to get there.

Kym: No…gonna watch it on tv. Maybe I’ll come… either way you should stop by after.

Kym lives right down the street from the church, Hillside International Truth Center, where we met over 15 years ago. You may have heard me talk about Kym before if you've been around me for awhile. Kym Kennedy is a radical forgiveness coach and spiritual teacher and awesome person.

My hubby, TD, and I made it to church and really enjoyed the service. I found myself being emotional as the praise team danced to the song Glorious. I really love this song, and one of my favorite lines is, I was created to make your praise glorious. I truly hope that what I offer to this world is doing that.

I moved about after the service saying hello to people I hadn't seen since the last time I was there. it felt like coming home. Kym invited us over after church and we drank tea and had a snack before we headed over to my brother's house for dinner. We watched a show on Netflix called Break Point, about tennis players on the tour. I grew up playing tennis so I found it to be interesting and engaging.

At my brother's house we enjoyed dinner at the table, no cell phones, just good old conversation. Remember those days?

My family at the dinner table - TD, my brother, Tony, his wife, Pat, her sister, Portia, my niece, April, her partner, Jahmaal  - and food made with love - sliced turkey & ham, collard greens, speckled butter beans, mac and cheese, potato soufflé, mixed green salad with tomatoes, corn casserole, that I used to make, now April makes, and lemon frosted cupcakes.

On our way home TD and I talked about what a nice time we had and he asked who made what dishes. As I shared with him that April made the collards, mac & cheese, corn casserole and the cupcakes, I smiled remembering when she started making the corn casserole, I believe in high school.  I smiled remembering the times she would be in the kitchen listening to my mom share her dishes because she didn't use recipes. Such a delightful memory and day.

A long time ago I decided that I would celebrate every day and not be so focused on the “holiday of the moment.”

Whatever you choose to celebrate and on whatever holiday -  whatever you believe - remember, to be present, as present as you can to whatever it is that you do and ENJOY! That is MINDFULNESS IN ACTION.

It was a delightful day filled with family, friends, and fellowship.

I’d love to hear about what is happening with you. What brings you delight these days?

Here are a few pictures from yesterday, only a few, because we were enjoying each others company and the pictures were - “oh, we are heading out let’s take a pic.” The picture of Kym is from last year because we forgot to take one. I remember the days when we didn't have instant photos.

Guess what! The card today is about forgiveness… I know what that is about for me.

Please let me know what's happening with you by replying here or messaging me on social media, Instagram, LinkedIn or Facebook are best.
