How many songs do you know about a “broken heart?”

Do they bring a tear to your eye?

One heart-wrenching song is “Tears in Heaven”, by Eric Clapton. He wrote it after losing his four-year old son.

………….Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
………….Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please
………….Beyond the door there’s peace I’m sure
………….And I know there’ll be no more tears in heaven

We know that death and loss is part of life. That doesn’t make losing your loved one any easier. When our loved one has a long-term illness, the grieving process starts earlier, and hurts more.

A broken heart is not a fantasy. A broken heart is painful. It can lead to a medical condition, “Broken Heart Syndrome.” Symptoms actually mimic a heart attack.

My guest on TOULA’S TIPS FOR CAREGIVERS will help us to recognize the symptoms of, and recover from “Broken Heart Syndrome.”
