Previous Episode: 10. Goals w/ Lucy Smith

Happy New Year! We're kicking off 2020 with a bit of a different episode, as we talk to musician John Patterson of Brisbane band The Grates. John spent much of 2019 editing together videos made from old episodes of Australian variety show, Hey Hey It's Saturday (which initially ran from 1971 to 1999). In fact, as John shares, this editing became an obsession.
What he discovered and created is a number of rather uncomfortable moments from Australian television history, which John believes is indicative of wider Australian culture. This led to a conversation about cancel culture - one of the bigger discussions of 2019. What shall we do about mistakes made in the past, documented for all to see?
You can find John on Twitter @thegrates, and the Hey Hey videos can be seen on Instagram @jhonpatterson. And if you really want to subscribe to the Hey Hey It's Saturday subscription service... it is indeed online.
The article discussed in this episode is 'Why Cancel Culture Doesn't Always Work', by Leah Asmelash at CNN.
