Jennifer Warawa and her husband have been foster parents for a little over four years. Since they didn’t have children of their own, the couple decided to get certified after hearing about a small nonprofit agency in Atlanta that was struggling to find foster homes for the children in their system. Shortly thereafter, they were given two foster kids who were with them for nearly two years. One of the favorite memories for Jennifer is when her business connections, who had become personal connections, sent her foster kids Christmas cards from all over the world.

In this episode, Jennifer and I talk about how having foster children allows her to get a different perspective. No matter how crazy work might seem, there are other things much more important than work and seeing her foster kids helps remind her of that. Talking about being a foster parent with client and coworkers has been easy because she feels that business becomes personal. She also says, “Your vulnerabilities are what give you a unique perspective at work.”
