During this season we'll be featuring more children's authors. As a pediatrician, I love books and want to promote reading and authors of color. Books are magical and a great resource for kids to see themselves, learn, discover, explore and have fun. Books are conversation starters.

In this week’s of What is Black podcast, we talk about a new children’s book, Fry Bread, that explores a modern Native American family. I speak with debut author Kevin Noble Maillard. He shares the inspiration for the book, the origin of Fry Bread, and how the book helped him and his family explore has African-American and Native American heritages. Fry Bread celebrates the diversity of the Native American family.
