Manjot Bains worked for the federal government when she was interviewed by HuffPost about her reaction to Justin Trudeau’s blackface scandal during the federal election. She criticized Trudeau, and said she was shocked when she saw the photos, and that she couldn’t reconcile them with who she thought he was.

Manjot told her managers about the interview, and says that what happened next made her feel like she had no choice but to quit her job — which was at, of all places, the anti-racism division of the Department of Canadian Heritage.

She’s on the show today with host Tamara Khandaker. They talk about who really pays the price when people of colour speak out against racism.
