TRANSCRIPT OF THE STORY

"This happened somewhere in Africa a long, long time ago...

A hunter went into the bush. He while he was there, he found an old human skull. The hunter had had a long, lonely day, so he said… as you do…: “What brought you here?”

To his surprise, the skull answered! It said: “Talking brought me here.”

The hunter was stunned and amazed! A talking skull!!!

He ran off. He had to tell someone! He had to tell the king!

So when he got to his village he told the king that he had found a dry human skull in the bush and that it spoke to him!

The king wouldn’t believe him: “Never since my mother bore me have I heard of a talking skull.”

The king summoned his advisors and asked them if they’d ever heard of a talking skull and none of them had. So the king decided to send a guard out with the hunter to find out if it’s true. The guard had instructions from the king to kill the hunter on the spot if it turned out to be a lie.

So the guard and the hunter went back into the bush and after a time, they come to the skull. The hunter addressed the skull: “Skull, I’m back. Speak.” The skull was silent. The hunter asked as he did before: “What brought you here?” The skull lay still and didn’t answer.

The whole day the hunter begged the skull to speak, but no matter what the hunter did, it wouldn’t answer.

As the sun began to set, the guard told the hunter he had one more chance to make the skull speak. The skull did not.

So without hesitation and in accordance with the king’s command, the guard cut off the hunter’s head.

When the guard was gone, and all was quiet, the skull finally opened its jaws and said to the dead hunter’s head: “So… what brought you here?”

The dead hunter’s head replied: “Are you kidding?! Talking brought me here!”
