Interview with Damalia Majeed and Adrienne Small

Damila: Sioban "Damalia” Majeed, Visionary of Damalia Hair Studio and founder of the Texture Prodigy Academy — where the call to action is to bring awareness to Diversity and inclusion of textured hair to help cosmetology schools and stylist to understand that education on all texture is needed in order for the industry to grow.

She is a 26 year hair industry veteran , educator, color and coily/ curly specialist and truly understands that education plays a major part not only to be knowledgeable within your craft but to also understand that without proper knowledge you will perish.  A native of Camden N.J., she has always had a love for the Hair and Fashion Industries.  Her talents have taken her from salon owner, educator, New York Fashion Week, video shoots, and various magazine publications , as well as the Texture vs. Race Team, where WE met, since 2018.

Adrienne: Adrienne Small began her career in 2005, working as a receptionist at Gould’s Salon in Memphis, TN while attending Plaza Beauty School. Adrienne has been a part of the beauty industry for more than 15 years and is now fully retired from behind the chair.

In addition to being a professional stylist, she’s also an educator. Adrienne received her Master Cosmetology Instructor license in 2021, and is a Beauty Mastermind that provides education for all hair types with specialities in color, cutting, styling, & natural hair blowout services.

Putting her love for education and support for other colorist on the same platform was the obvious decision and so was birthed HAIR COLOR CONCEPTS® ACADEMY & HAIR COLOR CONCEPTS® MAGAZINE!

Adrienne  takes time to give back to the community as a philanthropist. She created and produced THINK PINK! Hair & Fashion Show, a benefit for Memphis' Susan G. Komen Foundation,  Beyond The Chair: A Beauty Symposium,  A 3 day symposium with intimate demo, hands on, and panel discussion sessions, which has now been transitioned to a non profit organization for future beauty professionals ages 13-19, known as The Adrienne Small Foundation®.
