This month on Tease Talks we are talking with Sharie Wilson and Tonya Thompson, co-founders of DreamGirls, to talk about owning multiple salons and product innovation!

DreamGirls is a women-owned, family-owned, and Black-owned salon and hair care line. DreamGirls Co-Founders Sharie Wilson and Tonya Thompson are on a mission to debunk the myth that black women *can’t* have long, healthy hair and change the negative narrative around natural hair and instead, be champions for textured hair. Thompson and Wilson are professional hairstylists with over a decade of experience who are recognized for their reputation of having “magic hair-growing hands.” They’ve made it not only their expertise but passion to help black women's hair reach its greatest potential in both strength and length through the DreamGirls Healthy Hair Program and product line.

Their journey began in 2001 when Sharie moved from her hometown, Los Angeles to Sacramento to pursue a job in corporate America, only to find herself returning home after long workdays to do what she truly loved...hair. Tonya has always had a passion for helping women gain confidence and feel beautiful by doing their hair and with an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age. She was the girl who did everyone’s hair before school dances and even casually on the weekends. In 2006, Tonya’s love for helping women feel beautiful through hair came full circle after Sharie presented her with a business venture of selling hair extensions. This quickly led to both sisters starting an apprenticeship to receive their cosmetology license and opening up the first DreamGirls salon which allowed them to get back to doing what they loved most- hair.

The DreamGirls product line was released at the start of COVID-19 and helped provide hair care solutions to everyone at home who could no longer visit a salon. Since then, the product line expanded into curl and styling products as well as accessories for all hair types. DreamGirls products are color & straightener safe with UV protection and are infused with key ingredients that maintain and promote healthy hair growth such as Peppermint Oil, Pro Vitamin B5, Soybean Oil and Lavender while leaving out Parabens, Sulfates, and Sodium Chloride. Sharie and Tonya are also co-founders of Mixed Institute of Cosmetology & Barber, a school dedicated to teaching students how to style all hair textures.
