Episode 131 - The Commodification of Faith. Has the emergence of a generation of Muslims living in the West who are more materially advantaged than the generations before them led to the global commodification of Islam? Muslim integration and representation in the Western world is emphasised. However, we could argue that this contemporary society of ours holds different values to traditional Muslim ones, so, at what cost has this been? Major International brands are competing with one another for a slice of the multi-billion pound “Halal Market”, commodifying everything “Muslim” from finance, to clothing, to holidays, and even cosmetics. Is Islam the only religion to have fallen victim to this branding of faith?
