Today we continue our series of Underdog Tales, highlighting some of the greatest upsets in sports history.
This episode, we dive into a story in the realm of baseball, joined by comedians (and die-hard Cardinals fans) Jason and Randy Sklar.
The 2011 St. Louis Cardinals were supposed to be a team on the rise -- but losing star pitcher Adam Wainwright during Spring Training put all that into question.
The team still started off hot, but suffered a slew of injuries to key players like Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday, and David Freese. The wins became fewer and farther between.
By the time late summer rolled around, it seemed like the idea of making the postseason was only a mirage. They only had a 2% shot to make the Wild Card.
But they pulled it together. Not only did they make the playoffs, they went ahead and won the World Series, too.
