Is God Responsible for Pandemics and Calamities?

God and Judgement

We first need to understand the types of judgement that exist:

Eternal Judgement

Daniel 12:2

Many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, and some to disgrace and eternal contempt. -- Daniel 12:2

Psalms 9:5

You have rebuked the nations: You have destroyed the wicked; you have erased their name forever and ever. -- Psalms 9:5

Psalm 81:15

15 Those who hate the Lord would cower to him; their doom would last forever. -- Psalms 81:15

John 12:48

48 The one who rejects me and doesn’t receive my sayings has this as his judge: The word I have spoken will judge him on the last day. -- John 12:48

Romans 14:10

10 But you, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. -- Romans 14:10

Jude 1:6-7

6 and the angels who did not keep their own position but abandoned their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deep darkness for the judgment on the great day. 7 Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire. -- Jude 1:6-7

Revelation 20:15

15 And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire -- Revelation 20:15

 
 The wrath of Jesus for the unrepentant on His coming

2nd Peter 3:10-12

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed. 11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness 12 as you wait for the day of God and hasten its coming. Because of that day, the heavens will be dissolved with fire and the elements will melt with heat. -- 2 Peter 3:10-12

2 Thessalonians 1:7-11

7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels, 8 when he takes vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength 10 on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed. 11 -- 2 Thessalonians 1:7-11

Revelation 22:12-13

12“Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. -- Revelation 22:12-13

Revelation 19:11-16

11 Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a name written that no one knows except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. 14 The armies that were in heaven followed him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. 15 A sharp sword came from his mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. 16 And he has a name written on his robe and on his thigh: King of Kings and Lord of Lords. -- Revelation 19:11-16

 

 

Judgement of Abandonment

Revelation 22:10-15

10 Then he said to me, “Don’t seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near. 11 Let the unrighteous go on in unrighteousness; let the filthy still be filthy; let the righteous go on in righteousness; let the holy still be holy.”

12“Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

14“Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates. 15 Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. -- Revelation 22:10-15

Romans 1:24

24 Therefore God delivered them over in the desires of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. -- Romans 1:24

Romans 1:26

26 For this reason God delivered them over to disgraceful passions.....-- Romans 1:26

Romans 1:28

28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a corrupt mind so that they do what is not right. -- Romans 1:28

 Why would God bring wrath upon the righteous?

Genesis 18:24-26

24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away instead of sparing the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people who are in it? 25 You could not possibly do such a thing: to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. You could not possibly do that! Won’t the Judge of the whole earth do what is just? ” 26 The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” -- Genesis 18:24-26

Romans 6:15-19

15 What then? Should we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? Absolutely not! 16 Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey ​— ​either of sin leading to death or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching to which you were handed over, 18 and having been set free from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness. 1 -- Romans 6:15-19

 
 The earth is fallen and it's our faultThe grief we experience in this world isn't because of God; it is because of us.
