When God starts asking questions, it's to get your attention! Here are some examples from the scriptures:
1. Where are you? Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat? (Genesis 3:9,11) God asked Adam and Eve these questions for us to understand an obedient relationship with God is so necessary.
2. What is that in your hand? (Exodus 4:2) God asked Moses this question to illustrate that sometimes what we need is already on hand or present.
3. What are you doing here? (I King 19:9) God asked Elijah this question to remind us that He is a God full of mercy and grace that reaches very far, even into dark cave moments.
4. Am I a God at hand, says the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? Do not I fill heaven and earth? (Jeremiah 23:23-24) God ask Jeremiah this question to remind us of His loving present care and vast power available to us.
5. Can these bones live?(Ezekiel 37:3) God asked Ezekiel this question to remind us that He has power over dead situations.
6. Do you want to be made well? (John 5:6) God asked the crippled man this question to let us know He is a healer!
