Marilyn Ramirez is a second generation immigrant born and raised in Inwood, the northernmost neighborhood in New York City. She is the daughter of working class parents and her keen observation of society led her to studies in Latino culture and masters degrees in sociology and special education. She’s been teaching for the past 15 years in the same neighborhood where she grew up. She is exploring her creative side and has written short stories about her culture and relationship with her mother published on DominicanWriters.com. She is currently working on her memoir. Marilyn lives with her two teenage children. She also has an adult son and a granddaughter who spends the summers with her. She enjoys traveling both with family and alone, reading and playing capoeira.
