There are hundreds of cities in the American Midwest just like Circleville, Ohio. But what makes it truly unique, what the town is most well-known for, is a strange letter-writing campaign that spanned two decades and may have left at least one person dead.

The story began in March 1977 when the anonymous letter-writer penned a note to Westfall School District superintendent Gordon Massie, urging him to stop propositioning the female bus drivers that worked under him (an allegation that was never proven). In the weeks, months, and years to come, these letters would become much more threatening and broad in scope, seemingly aimed at random figures in the area that earned the author's ire...
