Jess talks to entrepreneur Lauren Currie who builds businesses to help woman use and see their power. Lauren is also the founder and CEO of Upfront which is on a mission to change confidence.

Lauren comes from a background in product design and describes her journey to entrepreneurship, using the skills she learnt in design to build and create ventures. She explains how the platforms and speaking opportunities she found herself at gave her an introduction into intersectionality when finding that she was often the only female. Lauren then went on a mission to bring about change, learning how she could give women the confidence to be visible and to talk publicly. Thus, Upfront was born.

Lauren explains why traditional and existing confidence-building materials are outdated, focussing on extroversion, masculinity and whiteness. She gives an impassioned and informative account on the intersectional struggles for women, how feminism and oppression doesn’t effect any two women in the same way.

Jess and Lauren discuss funding blocks that women fronted businesses face, as well as:

Bias in a patriarchal societyBusting confidence mythsUnlearning false beliefsVenture capital learningsReframing failureGiving yourself permission
