Heber Alberto Marquez was born in Zacatecas, Mexico and came to the US at an early age. He has been living in South East LA for over 20 years. He earned his BA and teaching credential from CSULB and MA from CSUDH. He has started a Doctorate program this in Educational Psychology at USC with a focus on what keeps boys of colors motivated to be the best version of themselves. As an educator for over 15 years, he’s served in the SELA and NELA communities and continues serving the community of Maywood as a councilmember, a teacher at Maywood Center for Enriched Studies, and at his local church helping lead a youth group.

In 2013, he traveled to Sierra Leone, Africa as a missionary and worked with elementary-aged kids. Since then he’s been back another time and has also been to the Dominican Republic to serve at an orphanage, he’s been to New Orleans to help rebuild homes 10 years after Hurricane Katrina, and continues serving his community here at home. His motto is Live Life and Inspire and loves how others who see his way of living get inspired to also serve those in need and be the best version of themselves.

It’s been confirmed multiple times, that his mission in life is to serve others, especially the youth. He has devoutly served the youth for over 20 years in multiple ways.

He plans on continuing advocating for our youth and hopes to someday have a non-profit organization that can help students become better versions of themselves in SELA.
