Motivation takes many forms. Most readily, it comes from the enthusiasm for novel experiences we are all born with and follow without reservation as young children. Even when nothing is explicitly wrong with our experience, we lust for something more than what we currently have. In this state, the unfamiliar ceases to intimidate and begins to invite you into its mystery. Motivation can also be profoundly negative, experienced as a righteous kind of anger or frustration with one’s state of experience. The compelling force you feel, when you deny what is, can be directed into bold and important actions that rectify the injustice you endure.
