Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 123: All Hallows’ Steve, Week 1: Flaming Arms (“Mr. Mercedes”)

Hey, everyone! It’s the first episode of October, which we have decided this year to dub All Hallow’s Steve–that’s right, it’s a whole month of all Stephen King, all the time. (“How is that different from your normal material?” you may ask. It just is, okay? This month is ALL Stephen King. No Anna Kendrick or time travel or anything.) (That’s a blatant lie, we are absolutely going to talk about at least one of those things at least twice this month.)

But this week we tackle 2017’s AT&T production for DirecTV “Mr. Mercedes”. It’s a less-Kingian story (so far) that most people would expect, but that’s only because they haven’t gotten to the last book of the trilogy yet. It stars Brendan Gleeson’s delightful Irish accent, Mary Louise Parker, and a suuuuuuper messed up mother-son relationship that doesn’t involve either of those characters at all. Also, if you’re feeling frisky, go ahead and make a drinking game out of all the times Erin says “good-looking dude”, because she was even annoying herself with that one during editing.
