July 1st is national Doctor’s day in India & first of July 2022 is when India bans Single-use plastic. Our guest is a perfect fit for both.


Prof. Abdul Rashid Gatrad is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Manor Hospital and Professor of Paediatrics, University of Kentucky, Wolverhampton and Lahore (Pakistan) & Founder of WASUP - World Against Single-Use Plastic which is now global and in 50 countries.


He has a special qualification in Planetary Health and is a member of the Climate Change Committee of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. He is working with the Walsall/Wolverhampton Sustainability teams and local councils.


At the age of 75, he still works in the NHS – now in his 51st year. For having reduced the death rates in babies, he was made a Freeman of the Borough of Walsall; for improving access to children into West Midland Hospitals he was awarded an OBE. He has been on various national committees and written over 80 papers in International journals, and has authored two books. He holds three doctorates, Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science.


AS CEO of Midland International Aid Trust he has delivered medical and humanitarian projects to over 20 countries. In 2014 he was made Deputy Lieutenant to Her Majesty the Queen.
