CHRIS KRAM/ENTREPRENEUR

Join Wes Tankersley on this episode of Shaping Success as he talks with Chris Kram about his path to success.

Chris talks about his journey from playing baseball to joining the military.  Baseball was his focus from ages 11 to 17 years of age.  Chris discusses how through hard work; baseball helped him learn about failure which paved his way to success from high school baseball to club ball which is where you go to excel. He was a catcher at age 15 playing and learning from 18- to 20-year-olds.

At 17, Chris was bitten by a Rottweiler on this throwing forearm, and it subsequently ended his baseball career. He had to find a new identity. This led him into the military which gives an identity. He and Wes discuss how his Dad tried to steer his success path to the Marines, but Chris had other ideas and found his way to the Navy dealing with electronics with aviation including navigation and GPS.  He reminisces about being sling shot from a 2-propeller plane in order to do his job.

After he got out of the Navy, he stayed with his parents for a year trying to find his way to success.  He found his living passion was working with electronics by building car stereos.  He started his journey to success by going to a Universal Technical Institute earning his certification in mobile electronics installer while working. This is how he made success on his own.  He further achieved success and happiness by working at Best Buy where he was able to build custom items and do something on his own.

After Best Buy, he became a defense contractor which took him overseas but wasn’t fulfilling. He made good money but wasn’t growing as a person. In his mind it wasn't a good mindset for achievement.  At that point, he decided to go to college at the University of Virginia majoring in Business management. He talks about how as an older student, the professors thought of him as a professional rather than just a kid. This led to him and Wes chatting about the importance of selling yourself as a step to building success. No one will believe in you if you can’t believe in yourself. Now Chris is pursuing his Master’s Degree to further grow and pave his way to success.
