On this episode of Shaping Success with Wes Tankersley, Wes comes back from vacation with insights on how to attain a goal.
He talks about how college doesn’t teach anything besides how to take a test and write a paper. The key to success in learning is doing. For example, he learned how to manage kids by student teaching. It’s not something he learned in the classroom.
The first step is setting a smart goal. A smart goal is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. The way to achieve success in goal setting is to be proactive. What is the goal? What is needed to make the goal happen? One thing that is needed is consistency. The secret to success in attaining that goal is to start with the result and work backwards step by step. To stay on the course, the course needs to be mapped out. For example, if the goal is to own and rent out apartments, what is needed for the result? Money. How does one get the money? The mindset needed for achievement is hard work and consistency. By doing things over and over, the better one will become at the task.
Like the Tortoise and the Hare, the Tortoise won because he stayed the course with consistency.
