Featured in TIR Episode 212, Part 1 of 2: Keyboardist Joey Porter, who since 2006 has been a core member of adventurous Colorado-based funk, soul and jazz band The Motet.

Founded in 1998 by drummer Dave Watts, the group has released eight studio albums but has been especially prominent on the jamband festival circuit and become famous for amazing live shows. Those include annual Halloween concerts where since 2000 the group has killed with entire covers sets of all-time greats like The Headhunters; Stevie Wonder; Tower of Power; Prince; The Talking Heads; Sly & the Family Stone; Earth, Wind & Fire; and Parliament-Funkadelic. In those performances, The Motet doesn’t just replicate those sources but musically inhabits their creative spirits.

Their most recent album is 2019’s Death or Devotion.
