Wicklow’s historic gaol stands in the centre of the township and today it is one of its major visitor attractions. But its history is filled with the angry men of Irish rebellions and the starving faces of the local people.

You could be put behind bars for life for stealing a sheep and more people were transported from the area of Wicklow than anywhere else in Ireland.

Most of them ended up in Australia.

Wicklow Gaol has many ghosts that are seemingly serving an ‘afterlife sentence’ as they have no intention of leaving any time soon and encountering one of them can be a terrifying experience.

We dive into the stories of these poor souls and find out why this gaol saw so many prisoners condemned to never finding peace.
