Whether we like it or not, winter is here. And that means cold nights, cold days, and high energy bills. Today, I’d like to share some key tips on keeping your home warm and lowering your energy costs.
First, the Department of Energy has found that reducing drafts could cut your energy costs by up to 30%. Adding weather stripping to the bottoms and sides of all exterior doors is an effective way to stop drafts. Another cheaper option is to place draft snakes along the bottom of all exterior doors.
Another easy, energy-saving tip is to reverse your ceiling fans. Hot air rises, so reversing your ceiling fans will help to more evenly distribute this warm air. Winter means cold nights, cold days, and high energy bills. Also, drain your hot water heater. This can improve its efficiency by reducing the sediment and particles at the bottom of the machine.
