Techman16 is flying solo tonight for this review; a welcome change to the various storylines that include The Burn, PTSD and future technology.

Taking a visit back into the past with Emperor Phillipa Georgiou and her character progression was very intriguing.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Terra Firma Part 1 takeaways:

- This was the Star Trek version of A Christmas Carol

Georgiou is Ebenizer Scrooge,  Prime Burnham is Jacob Marley, entity guarding the transdimension door (Carl): Ghost of Christmas Past and it was a Holiday-themed episode with a snowy planet.

- Alternate Universe

Interesting how well Discovery tied in the Kelvin Timeline and made it canon, along with the alternative universe we have come to know and understand.

- Change in perspective

In season 1, Prime Burnham had to play the role of a Terran and was taken aback at the ruthlessness and aggression displayed by Georgiou, but this time Mirror Burnham is the aggressor and the Emperor herself has to hide her emotions.

- Finally, Star Trek

This episode displayed all the characters we have come to know about in Discovery and it seems as though we finally see a clear chain of command and competent officers doing their jobs well.

Also, the character driven story regarding Georgiou was really reminiscent of the Deep Space 9 storytelling model.

The acting was on point and it was truly convincing that we were experience another dimension. The emotions of Burnham and the stoic nature of Georgiou really made this episode a must see.
