Mildred Morgan Ball takes us through her incredible journey filled with many instances where she found herself as the "first and only.” Starting with her high school experience in the late 1940s, and continuing through an illustrious career of advocating for gender and racial equity in athletics and the performing arts. At the age of four, she experienced the formidable passing of her mother and witnessed her father became a widower with eight children to raise.

A “salt of the earth” steel mill worker, this "Superman," as she describes him, instilled in his children the important values of education (seven of the eight children went on to earn one or more college degrees), their duty to family and a deep commitment to the community. Armed with these values, Mildred is actively engaged with multiple community-based nonprofits while enjoying her time as a grandmother. Proud to be deemed a role model for women who "retire in order to re-fire,” she has recently embarked on a new career as a successful TV commercial actress at 84, as well as a “grandma” to many in her community. Nothing slows down this trailblazer!
