Many Americans are living past age 90, and some in extremely good health.

So, what determines who makes it, and who doesn’t?

The 90+ Study has been taking place at the University of California Irvine since 2003, studying the oldest of the old.

And the findings may well surprise you.

Today, the study’s co-principal investigator joins us to unlock the secrets of growing old gracefully.

Is it heredity, diet, exercise, drinking? What has the biggest impact on healthy longevity? And what about Alzheimer’s and dementia?

Dr. Claudia Kawas:

Professor of Neurology and Neurobiology & Behavior at the University of California Irvine
Co-principal investigator of The 90+ Study

Town Square with Ernie Manouse is a gathering space for the community to come together and discuss the day's most important and pressing issues.

Audio from today’s show will be available after 5 p.m. CT. We also offer a free podcast here, on iTunes, and other apps.
