It’s Science Friday! We’re joined by Neil deGrasse Tyson, renowned astrophysicist, and Director of the Hayden Planetarium. He’s known for sharing his love of science and bringing it into the mainstream.
Tyson discusses where we should be by now in terms of space exploration and the geopolitical, cultural, and economic factors hindering us from moving forward.
Neil deGrasse Tyson will be appearing at Jones Hall on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 7:30pm. The program is sponsored by Performing Arts Houston.
Then, we shift topics to reflect on the role that pop culture, particularly, the science fiction genre, has played on influencing technology we use in our daily lives, such as the cell phone, 3D printing, robot vacuums and self-driving cars.
We’re joined by Dr. Ed Finn, Founding Director of the Center for Science and the Imagination at Arizona State University, to explain the work they do in providing a space for creative thinkers, scientists, and engineers to inspire collective imagination for better futures.
Also, joining this conversation is Dr. Chris Bronk, Associate Professor at the Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston, who discusses how ideas presented in science fiction in the past, exist now in the present.
